Smartt Takes: Evergreen Updates🌿

ICYMI: We’ve gone evergreen. That means the newsletter you’re reading right now will be updated daily with fresh headlines and analysis — no extra emails, no fluff.

One link, one place.

What we’re watching this week:

  • Trump meets with Israel PM Netanyahu: On Monday, Trump and Vance met with PM Netanyahu. Trump announced that he’s working on a news ceasefire deal with Israel and Hamas, and that the U.S. would be holding direct talks with Iran starting Saturday.

  • Supreme Court Weighs in: The Supreme Court paused a court order requiring Trump to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador. The Court also ruled 5-4 that Trump could use the Alien Enemies Act to deport members accused of being part of the Tren de Aragua gang in Venezuela, overturning a lower court ruling. The lawsuit must now be brought to Texas, effectively out of Judge Boasberg’s hands.

  • Market & Tariff Update: Markets tanked Monday as Wall Street reacted forcefully to Trump’s tariffs. They swiftly rebounded upon hearing a tip that Trump was considering a 90-day pause, which the president quickly debunked as “fake news.” Conversely, the president threatened an additional 50% tariffs on China if they don’t withdraw their own tariffs by April 8.

  • Congress Moves on Tariffs: Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) introduced a companion bill to the bipartisan tariff bill introduced by the Senate last week. The bill would lift Trump’s national emergency act he uses to impose tariffs, require Trump to notify Congress within 48 hours of introducing a new tariff, and give Congress 60 days to approve the tariff. Trump on Monday threatened to veto the bill. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), meanwhile, said that the House will give Trump “space” on tariffs.
