The Politics of Natural Disasters
Held this one until after Milton, but now it's time to analyze
In the last month, Hurricanes Helene and Milton have ravaged communities and torn apart families. Millions of people went weeks without power and running water. And many who have lost their homes didn’t have flood insurance, a necessity typically only for those living near flood zones. At least 230 people died due to Hurricane Helene — the highest number since Hurricane Katrina — and several others were/are missing. These are horrific tragedies, ones where the communities destroyed will take months to rebuild, and of which the effects will be felt for years to come.
